Gray and Black, FTW

Another day, another court appearance, another black and gray ensemble. Whatever works, right? at least I punched it up a bit with red shoes (and a teeny pop of turquoise in the necklace).
Top: Loft (alternative)
Cardigan: Madewell (alternative)
Skirt: The Limited
Shoes: Ann Taylor (alternative)

And now lets take a gander at how I've styled this pretty basic white top in days of yore...

First up: April 2014. Wow, well that's a lot of color. I definitely went through a colorful period with a lot of odd color combos in 2013/2014. I still like the combo in theory, but would probably not go quite so bold today...
Next up: Also in April 2014 (just four days before the above outfit), I rocked this blouse on casual Friday with jeans, a bright cardigan, and (of course) a turquoise necklace.  Would definitely wear this all over again, but not with flats. I tried, I am not a flats gal (which is too bad when you are 5'8" - almost 6 feet tall in heels!)
And here we have it with jeans again - this time of the more colorful variety. I just remember it was freaking HOT the day we took this pic. And also how much I used to love those shoes (they just went into the goodwill pile yesterday!)
And finally, here it is in June 2013, untucked over slacks and paired with all shades of gray.... easy breezy.

Lawyer-ly Best

Nothing exciting to see here... just me in a boring black dress and gray blazer. Had court this morning and had to look my lawyer-ly best. Actually felt like I was pushing the envelope a little bit by wearing a wrap dress instead of my traditional skirt suit/blouse combo. Oh so exciting! ;)
Dress: Old Navy (I think its time for a black wrap dress upgrade for me, and I am contemplating this)
Blazer: The Limited (similar)
Shoes: Ann Taylor (alternative)

And here's how I styled this same dress on a (clearly much colder) March day two years ago.... (putting aside the weird stance in the pic [which I even noted at the time...why did I post this pic then? ugh, silly past version of me], I actually dig the ensemble - though I really don't like tights, try as I might...)

...Oh hey, look! I wore tights with this dress on another occasion a few months before that ... weird.

And on a much warmer day three years ago, I discussed taking this dress from day to night.... Oh, I loved those shoes, love this photo, love it all....

Gingham Style

This gingham top was in major rotation when I first bought it (way back in 2010 when I was obsessively following Kendi  (one of my first fashion blog loves - and still a fave) and she had a gingham top in her "30 for 30" remix).  In recent years, however, I have tended to forget about it and not wear for months (or years!).  Then one day I put it on and wonder why I let it languish so long. A gingham blouse is definitely one of those surprising closet workhorses that goes with more stuff than you would ever realize.

Shirt: Old Navy (alternatives here, here, and here - so many out there!)
Cardigan: J.Crew (mine is cotton, but wool version here)
Skirt: The Limited
Shoes: Just Fab (alternative)

And here's how I styled the same shirt a bit over a year ago... not anything groundbreaking, but this is honestly one of my fave looks ever. Love the look of the crewneck sweater over the collared shirt.

And apparently I only ever pair this top with a black pencil skirt... as seen two years ago when I accessorized with cognac belt + shoes:

Friday Black & White

Basic black and white + denim on this Friday. My jeans are not black, but they look it in this picture and now I kind of wish they were. In any event. I also want to point out my cute Target shoes that I now have in black and tan.... I think I am in serious love, you guys.
Top: Old Navy (alternative)
Jeans: Gap Always Skinny (no longer made, but get the new version here)
Shoes: Target

And now, let's check out this top styled in days of yore....

Three years ago in the Barbie aisle with a wool pencil skirt (before I decided to cut off those damn strings from the collar)....I would wear this whole thing all over again today.

And this ensemble from later the same year.... I would also wear again. But only if I tucked the shirt in and wore different shoes. And geezus what a terrible photo. Ugh.
And with another colored pencil skirt (hm.... I am not particularly creative with this top, eh?) about a year ago.... and another terrible picture... but I digress.
Oh my dear. I have a lot of thoughts about this... the outfit is cute in theory (blouse, skinny jeans, tall boots), but OMG it was so poorly executed and so so poorly photographed. Embarrassing, really, especially next to that fab shot of Karen.

History of a Striped T-Shirt

This striped top has always been a workhorse in my closet but for some reason it fell out of rotation recently. In any event, here it is again in all its glory. And with a flippy skirt for the second day in a row because apparently these are my new jam.

Shirt: H&M (for $10, you HAVE to buy this shirt)
Cardigan: Martin + Osa (R.I.P.) (cute alternative)
Skirt: Loft
Shoes: Target (I went ahead and bought these in black too - LOVE)

And lets take a gander at how I've styled this tee in the past, shall we?

Last summer with a bit of turquoise because of course...

Peeking out from under a sweater last winter....
With a sparkly skirt....
Once again with a black skirt, on one of my last days working with Karen :( ....
..ok, it seems I could find a zillion different outfits I've worn with this top, but it seems I pretty much stick to pairing it with black/gray/ in this outfit from three years ago which I would wear again in a heartbeat....

It Ain't Broke

Someone once told me the color purple is the most universally-flattering color. And I believe it. This purple blouse is easily one of my favorite things in my closet because I honestly just feel great every time I wear it.  Also - I clearly love pairing purple with red shoes for some reason (see quite a few examples below)... hey, if it ain't broke!
Blouse: Stitch Fix (great alternative)
Skirt: Loft (alternative)
Shoes: Ann Taylor (alternative)

I also sported the red/purple combo a few months back, though this outfit never made it to the blog - only Instagram:
Looks like I first tried the trend three years ago....
...and did it again just a few months later....
...and again in 2014 as part of our (short lived) "Wear it Wednesday" series (this time with a purple skirt!)...

Once-A-Year Dress

This dress is great. But I can only wear it about once a year because there really aren't a ton of ways to style it. Or, once every three years, as the case may be here.  In any event, it stands on its own, so to speak. And does it well, I'd say, since its freaking adorable.
Dress: Tabitha - from Anthropologie (not at all similar but oh-so cute)
Shoes: Just Fab (alternative)

And here's the only other way I've worn the dress on the blog.... exactly as I wore it today, basically, just with a cardigan (I had a gray one on today that I didn't photograph) and some hoop earrings.

Friday Simplified

Every Friday, I have these high hopes of putting together some awesome casual blogger outfit.  And then I always disappoint myself because it ends up being some athleisure bullshit that just isn't that interesting.

Today, I decided: let's just go with the basics.  Everyone has this in their closet, right?  A blue dress shirt, white jeans, some wedges.  Done.  Easy!  Friday simplified.

In an unrelated confession, I discovered something today that is changing my work snacking life.  I had leftover potato chips from last weekend in Mammoth (because, outside of cleaning out the condo fridge, I probably would not end up with a bag of Ruffles for myself), and the Asian girl in me just won't waste it.  So I also had some Lipton onion soup mix.  I mixed that up with a container of Fage Greek yogurt, and then a handful of chopped scallions I had from sushi rolls that Vi and I made the other day for lunch.  And OMG - potato chip and chive dip HEAVEN!  Please try it.  It is so, so good.

Of course, now my keyboard needs a little cleaning... ick.

Shirt: H&M (this is perfect)
Jeans: Sold Design Lab (in black)
Wedges: Sole Society (sky high splurge)

Too Chipper

I am wearing TWO exciting purchases today.

One - these shoes. OMG. They are perfection (dont think my pic does them justice).  And they are $30 from Target. Comfy, cute, go with everything.... seriously does not get better. I expect to wear these basically every other day throughout open-toe shoe season (which in LA is 10 months per year).  In fact, I am buying them in black too.  Run, don't walk.

Two - these jeans. My fave jeans of all time are Gap's "Always Skinny." When I had to buy new jeans recently (for weight loss as opposed to weight gain reasons this time - huzzah!), I went to Gap only to discover that at some point they discontinued the Always Skinny and replaced them with the "True Skinny."  Unfortunately, the True Skinny jeans do not do my body any favors. :( Thankfully, ebay came to the rescue (again!) and I discovered there are many, many, many people still selling my beloved discontinued style... and at half the price or even less! I mean... that's pretty damn awesome.

OK, I am way too chipper about all this. Happy weekend, y'all.  (also - told you I'd wear this shirt today!)

Top: Forever 21 (similar)
Jeans: Gap Always Skinny (R.I.P.) (buy the new skinny jean here)
Cardigan: The Limited (similar)
Shoes: Target

Also, lets take a gander at how I wore this cardigan in 2013 (in one of our top posts ever...)

...and earlier that same year in a more summery get-up (and one of my personal favorite outfits)...

Cardigan or Shirt?

I was perusing the J.Crew Factory website and saw this cute ensemble with a cardigan as a shirt.... and thought, "Hey I can do that!" So here was my attempt.  Not bad.

Cardigan: Stitch Fix (similar)
Skirt: Loft
Shoes: Banana Republic (similar)

Also, looking back at how I wore that shirt yesterday got me interested in doing the same with other clothes, so let's see how I wore this cardigan nearly two years ago, shall we?

Actually not bad, but the untucked shirt looks a bit frumpy.  This post actually reminds me I love that striped top... maybe I will wear it tomorrow, in fact...tucked in a bit, obvs.

Remixing It

Yo! Happy Humpday, people. I busted out this odd peasant top today which I am pretty sure I haven't worn in three years (in fact, I think this post captures the last time I wore it and it pains me to even look at it... I mean, what was I thinking?? So frumpy!), and I was pretty sure it was going to be relegated to the goodwill pile soon.  However, as I am wont to do, I decided to give 'er one last spin today and honestly am pretty happy with the results! Much better tucked in with a sleek (er.... albeit super wrinkly after sitting at my desk all day...) pencil skirt and heels than untucked with flare jeans and clunky shoes. Eegad.

Top: Gap (similar)
Skirt: J.Crew Factory (unfortunately only available in black but more colors if you are a Tall size)

Tuesday, March 15, 2016

I had court this morning, which limits me, fashion-wise, since I need to look super profesh. But it was the perfect opportunity to bust out my new (and oh-so-bright) top. Its called the "Logan" blouse and its from The Limited (a.k.a. where half my wardrobe seems to be from) and I want it in every color now (though the color selection seems kinda limited, no?). I just threw my suit jacket on over this for my court appearance and was instantly transformed into a legit lawyer. A lawyer with Resting Bitch Face, apparently. Ha!

Skirt: The Limited
Shoes: Ann Taylor (similar)

Fave Combo

No time to say anything - just going to point out that I am wearing my favorite combo of blacks/grays and red(ish) shoes. Happy almost Friday!  (also look how tired I look, eegad!)

Cardigan: Madewell (similar)
Tank: Gap
Skirt: Loft
Shoes: Ann Taylor (cute inexpensive alternative)

Hump Day Neutrals

Shades of gray, brown, and cream on this Hump Day.  And again in a flippy skirt.  All good by me.

Sweater: J.Crew Factory (alternative, which is basically identical)
Skirt: Loft (alternative)
Shoes: Banana Republic (super budget - and cute! - alternative)
Necklace: J.Crew Factory (alternative)

Humbling Lunch

A quick meetup at Whole Foods, where we (kinda) lost our shit when spotted one of our favorite fashion bloggers of all time, Emily Schuman of Cupcakes & Cashmere.  And then proceeded to hide in a corner to take our blog pictures because we were so concerned about her seeing us. So basically, we are tools. Ha!

Paloma says...

Nothing fancy here, just a basic tee with some sparkles and my current fave skirt. With red shoes because of course.

Tee: J.Crew (kinda sorta similar)
Skirt: The Limited
Shoes: Sole Society (cute slingback alternative)
Bag: Madewell

Karen says...

Seriously so funny to plan on a quick lunch + blog sesh with, uh, Emily Schuman at the next table.  And then we kinda ducked behind this building to take a couple of pictures, just to have her and her friend walk right past.  Paloma and I saw her holding a bouquet of pink flowers and called it: that's gonna get blogged, somehow.  I'll wait for it.

For the record, she looked effortlessly chic.

As for me, I've taken on snowboarding lately so have been spending up a storm on gear and clothes.  That means I cut spending on workwear, and are recyling things from the recent and remote past.  Take, for instance, a Zara dress from two years ago and an ella moss wrap from seven years ago.  No joke.

Dress: Zara (love this too)
Wrap: ella moss (spendy similar)
Heels: Frau (love these too)
Wristlet: Loft (this one's cute)
