New Faves

I love this blouse and these shoes that I recently bought from Banana Republic. I want these shoes in every single one of the luscious colors they come in. Seriously, run - don't walk.

My One Spring Splurge

Famous last words... "my one splurge."  A few browser windows or trips to the mall later, you've splurged several times over.  But in this case, I was running around Rome on a budget and really only let myself get one "nice" item, and that happened at the Longchamp at the Piazza di Spagna.

It would've been nice to go Gucci or Prada (my sister went Furla), but I'm not a huge fan (gasp!) of either anymore.  (Except the occasional occhiali...)  In reality, we all know you can get the best bags online or just at our local luxury mall now.  These trips, for me, from a shopping standpoint, are all about the street bazaars and anything European so long as I can avoid the VAT.  And, of course, you need to find something really special.  Once I realized that I would not be able to find this special edition Le Pliage "Cage Aux Oiseaux" at my local Nordstrom, I was in.  And it's pink!

Pretty Damn Basic

Not much to see here - even my co-worker who literally always has a comment about my outfit had nothing to say about this one. It's pretty damn basic, but sometimes that's just fine.  And also - I got a pedicure this weekend so decided to celebrate with open toe shoes!

Roman Holiday: Athleisure Edition

The last few months have gone by in a flurry - I know, we always say that - but really, it was moreso than usual.  When the year started I stayed with winter and had a long phase of just wearing black, which wasn't too interesting from a blog standpoint.  Then a trip to Italy went onto my date book and I started planning everything around that: (1) getting all my ducks in a row so I could take the week off from work; (2) making sure I was working out and in good shape, which got so excessive that I ended up really sick in the week right before the trip (go, me!); and, of course (3) planning my wardrobe so I could hit Italy with all my athleisure favorites!

I could write on and on about how wonderful it was to be in Florence, Rome, and Assisi, with layovers in Copenhagen and Istanbul.  But that's probably for a different blog.  Ultimately, the most important items to report are: I fell in love with Rome, as I never had before in three previous visits, and I think I am done wearing all black, or black layers!  I'm ready for spring!  And to revitalize my workwear once again.

Until then, here's today's simple outfit and some snaps from the last Roman holiday.  Of course, I had a fantasy of looking like Sophia Loren or Audrey Hepburn, but I think the very sensible Italians would have just laughed at me.

Peace Out, Work Week

This week has been a doozy. But - huzzah! Friday is here. Sending off the work week in another bit of oh-so-bright... this top from Stitch Fix last year.  Paired with my new favorite cardigan from Madewell, the most comfortable jeans ever (seriously - check them out; you have to size up by 2 sizes or so), and these shoes which I have recently proclaimed perfect and you've got yourself a great Friday outfit.  Peace out, all!

A Lovely Discovery

So I totally forgot about this skirt.  I've had it since... college? High school? I dunno, for forever.  However, I rarely reach for it, because it has always fit a little weird - too big in the waist.  Well, today I tried it on again and lo and behold it fits beautifully! Guess that's the good news about gaining weight. :-/

Also, how awesome is it that this skirt has belt loops? I am always looking for pencil skirts with belt loops and had convinced myself that they do not exist, when in fact I had one in my very own closet. What a lovely discovery.

Rainbow Bright

So, I liked this outfit in theory when I put it on this morning.  But as I was walking in to work, I caught a glance of my reflection in a window and thought "woah, that chick's outfit is bright....oh, that chick is me." Wah wah. Anyway, it probably is a little too bright, and honestly I probably wouldn't wear the combo again but hey - at least its cheery, right?

Shirt: Gap (like this short sleeve option)
Skirt: Halogen (or I like this pink lace one)

Yin Yang

Karen made a triumphant return to the blog yesterday in a fabulous ensemble at a fabulous location, while announcing her fabulous vacation.  And of course, she looked fabulous. Per usual.

Meanwhile, here is my much less fabulous return to the blog. Jeans, tee, and flip flops, shoddily photographed in my home office (check out that awesome visible cord in the background! Stylish!) after two days of staying home nursing a sick child back to health.  Oh, and with no travel plans in my foreseeable future.

It's a real yin and yang we've got going here, people.

Anyway, I actually love all the pieces in this outfit and since I never showcase casual wear on the blog, I thought why the hell not?  Back to regularly scheduled work wear tomorrow, I promise!

Shirt: Madewell (just purchased this and love it, want every color)

Easing Into Spring

I haven't had the most bloggable outfits lately, because I've been obsessed with black, and I thought, oh, do I just post another picture of all black?  It could be because I've darkened my hair, and black just feels right; or it could be all the nonstop Pinteresting of normcore looks, and realizing the easiest way to approximate it is to layer black.  For my Birkenstocks (yes, I bought some!).  For my Nixon watch.  For my beanies.  For my Vans slip-ons.  Etc.

I remain ever impressed with Paloma's ability to keep serving variety chic.  In three years' time we've seldom - if ever - repeated the same outfit!  And Paloma does it so well.  Is it just a perfectly curated closet?  The credit goes to the curator herself.

So, in merging my I-love-black self with the setting in of spring, today I match a loose black t-shirt with one of my favorite vibrant pencil skirts.  The photo is courtesy of my lovely co-worker Jen, as we lunched al fresco at Daily Dose.

And... I am headed to - gasp - ITALY tomorrow!  It's a quick trip with my working sis, to see family and old friends, before heading back and buckling down for a busy summer here at work.  There will be bloggable moments then, I am sure.  Ci vediamo in Italia!

Back and in Maroon Pants, Of Course

Wow, I really went M.I.A. for a bit there. But not because I am quitting blogging or anything of the sort.  Actually, sadly, my grandfather passed away (yes for those of you keeping track, that's two deaths in my family in three months, please stop already) and so I took some time to be with family, and also to enjoy my kiddos over their spring break.  Although I'm very sad about the loss of my grandfather, I am also grateful to have had him in my life for as long as I did. Besides, he was 91 years old, married to the love of his life for 63 years, and lived to see six great-grandchildren - we should all be so lucky to live such a beautiful and full life!

Anyway, on to the clothes.... nothing fancy today - just my trusty maroon pants paired with black and white, per usual.  (side note - I couldn't button these pants up completely today; sad but true. Operation "Get In Shape - Fo Real Tho" begins NOW).
