Purple + Leopard + Jeans

You guys.  My new leopard shoes are awesome.  I am so happy with this purchase.  While I loved the wedge on my old leopard shoes, I have to say that the regular pump version seems a bit classier.  And who doesn't love leopard heels with skinny jeans?  Speaking of jeans, I am loving these Old Navy Rockstar Mid-rise jeans.  They are so comfy and with a higher waist so no butt crack/underwear exposure risk.  Be warned, though, you DO have to size up a bit in these!

Just Another Manic Thursday...

Another busy day, another comfy outfit. Really excited for Friday after this loooong work week.

Dress: Old Navy (similar)
Cardigan: J.Crew (alternative)
Shoes: Banana Republic (alternative)
Necklace: Forever 21 (couldn't find anything similar but this would be cute with this outfit)

Trying to be better about showing closer-up photos of my accessories but I am VERY anti-selfie, and feel weird putting a close-up of my mug on the blog, but trying it out anyway....

Shoe selfies, on the other hand, I can do....

Paloma's January 2015 Purchases

In 2015 I really want to get back into budgeting and sharing what I buy each month, because it holds me accountable and I love reading these posts by other bloggers.  So here ya go....lots of shoes and accessories this month! Also, please note that I don't have photoshop and am incompetent when it comes to making those pretty collages, but I tried.

Also, linking up with Franish and other budget bloggers.

Top Row (L-R):
The Limited Slant Pocket One Button Jacket (originally $108, purchased for $64.80) = I feel like I need more blazers and less cardigans in my life - they just make any outfit look 100 times more polished.  To that end, I snatched up this camel colored blazer which gets great reviews and which I can see myself wearing with slacks, a dress, or jeans on casual Friday.  I ordered it online and it hasn't arrived yet, but I've got my fingers crossed that its a winner!

Asos "Feather Weight" Leather Sandal (in black and nude - $34 each) = All of the leather sandals I own are either totally trashed or totally out of style.  I refuse to fall back on flip flops this summer, so these gorgeous and basic leather flats are just perfect.  Of course, I had to get them in two colors.  Black is sold out, but nude is still available in limited sizes.

Middle Row (L-R):
The Limited Textured Chain Stretch Bracelet (originally $30, purchased for $18) = I have quite a few necklaces and earrings, but am short on bracelets.  My biggest beef with them is that its hard to wear them while typing all day - they seem to get in the way.  However, I have been noticing them on other women and bloggers, and feel like they add a touch of class to any ensemble, so I am trying it out and getting a couple.  I love the look of this chain bracelet and it has the word "stretch" in the description, which to me  = comfort.

The Limited Sparkling Rings Necklace (originally $30, purchased for $12) = I probably didnt need another necklace, but I just loved this simple one, and its unlike anything I own.

The Limited Teardrop Gem Stretch Bracelet (originally $35, purchased for $15) = yet another bracelet purchase so I can test them out.

Bottom Row (L-R):
Nine West "Martina" Pointed Toe Pump (originally $90, purchased for $80) = My beloved leopard wedges (the Jessica Simpson "Minna") have been officially worn into the ground and are beyond repair.  After spending months scouring ebay for them in my size, I have come up empty-handed and decided to bite the bullet and find a replacement pair.  These Nine West ones (which are being shipped to me as we speak) look perfect.  I have to say, the leopard shoe is one of the most surprisingly versatile pieces I have ever purchased.

ASOS "Speech" Pointed Heels ($47) = I waxed on about my love for these shoes the other day.  I have to say, when I was pulling together this post, I was surprised to see that all of the shoes I bought from Asos were not on sale - that is very unlike me, considering I pretty much never buy anything unless it's on sale.  Guess that's what happens when you are online shopping on a Friday night while drinking wine alone. :(  Nonetheless, the prices were good and these shoes are already a fave.

Total Spent in January = $305.00

This is above what I usually aim to spend, but not by much.  And considering that I will get a lot of use out of everything I bought, I feel OK with this amount.  Nonetheless, hoping to undershoot in February - its a short month, so maybe I will be successful! :)

New Shoe Love

Pretty basic today, again. Stripes and camel with a teeny bit of color in the form of my faux-turquoise necklace (which people always think is real when in fact i bought it for under five bucks from F21).

These shoes though! These are the first things I've ever purchased from Asos - don't know why it's taken me so long.  Anyway, they are perfect. Simple enough for work but interesting enough to be more than just another black pump.  And comfortable to boot. I think it's love.

Skirt: Halogen (not the same, but very similar)

Staring at my beloved shoes....

It's all in the details.

I haven't worn this shirt in ages. Actually I bought it during my first pregnancy and wore it all the way through my eighth month, even though it is not a maternity shirt. Just really stretchy! But somehow it has languished in the back of my closet, only worn once or twice since then.  I like to pull those "languishers" out every once in awhile and see if I can make an outfit out of them... so today this is what I came up with.  Definitely not groundbreaking, considering i just wore jeans and a cardigan with these shoes that I seem to wear every damn day... but whatevs, it works just fine for Casual Friday.

Shirt: Old Navy (similar)
Cardigan: The Limited (similar)
Jeans: J.Crew
Necklace: J.Crew Factory (similar)

Pretty necklace - love the art deco quality

My trusty nude shoes, always. Seriously, is there anything that nude shoes DON'T work with?

This Shirt, Those Jeans

I don't know why I fell in love with this Vince shirt about a year ago, it was probably the clean white and blue and the sleek fit.  But it's pretty hard to match with anything because of the colorblocking - kind of gets washed out with blue jeans, kind of does a tricolor thing with pants of any other color.  Sticking to jeans is best.  And, apparently, as evidenced here in 2013's "A Tale of Two Mondays", I like to pair it with some torn jeans.

After I washed it, it didn't seem to fit the same, and a year later I seem to be tucking everything in.  All these monumental issues aside - I love recycling an old look!

Never Fails

Look - a skirt AND some color! It's a big day, indeed.  Once again, I fall back on my beloved black/white (sorta white today)/red combo.... it seriously never fails me.  On another note, I can only think of one other time I have featured this skirt on the blog - it was two years ago and its still one of my all time fave outfits/photos on the blog (see it here, and note that I once again styled it with all black and a pop of red).

Tee: Target (similar)
Skirt: Forever 21 (Love 21 to be exact) (cute pencil skirt option)
Cardigan: Express from a zillion years ago (similar)
Pumps: Sole Society (similar but $$) (less expensive alternative)

Big ole fake pearls: who knows? (fun, edgier option)
Initial Necklace: gift from my hub

Man, I love these shoes.

This skirt is so distinctive that I can't wear it too often, and when I do, I try to do something I haven't done before.  $40 well spent, because it never fails me.

Sluggish Start

A slooow start to the New Year for me, having been away on a magnificent Asian holiday, and then coming back to BASICALLY EVERYTHING NEEDING TO BE DONE ASAP!  And then, of course, there was the jet lag... Ah, jet lag.  Getting up at 4:00 am and being crazy productive.  Then passing out by 5:00 pm that same day.  This made for some interesting afternoons at my desk.

I will do a compendium at some point of my best Taiwan outfits which, of course, have nothing to do with work wear, but which I had so much fun with because I made a vow to just wear whatever the heck I wanted to and to really embrace my inner "FOB."  Oh, it's there, alright.

And here is my inaugural 2015 post, in celebration of my first happy hour of the year.

Basics. Pants. Word.

I declare 2015 the Year of Basics and Pants.

Yesterday I realized that I am making more classic (simple? basic?) outfit choices.  Today I realized I have a thing for pants.  I have always had a thing for skirts (my pencil skirt collection is pretty out of this world).  But somehow this week I find myself reaching for pants.  They are just so simple, easy, basic.  It probably doesn't help that I have gained some lbs this month and pretty much all I want to wear are these comfy pants (I love you, The Limited).  Pencil skirts sound way too constricting indeed.

Here I Am!

I'm alive!!! Just barely.

I will spare you the details, but it has been a crazy couple of weeks.  My vacation turned into something much more somber due to a death in the family, and my first week back at work turned into something much more stressful due to me being a single mom for a week.

Anyway, here I am nonetheless, back to blogging duties.  In a totally simple outfit that makes me feel polished and pulled together when I am anything but.
