We got together again, which is fantastic. We were totally on a roll in October, which hopefully will continue into the rest of 2015.  And in typical K+P fashion, we inadvertently dressed similarly....blacks/whites/neutrals on this (finally) Fall-like day!

Karen says...

Sometimes I go for senatorial chic.  What's easier than black, white, and pearls?

Coat: H&M (similar car coat)
Top: Club Monaco (similar structured top)
Skirt: S.Y.L.K.(similar)
Shoes: Sole Society (ladylike splurge)
Bag: streets of Florence (similar)
Necklace: streets of Taipei (like this)

Paloma says...

Well I definitely wore this same top a couple of posts ago - oops. But it really is a fantastic shirt.  Looks just as good with jeans on casual Friday as it does with a skirt and cardigan on a regular working Tuesday.

Skirt: Halogen (alternative)

Cardigan: Ann Taylor

Old Places New Looks

So these outfits made it to Instagram way earlier than they did to the blog - bad bloggers!

Anyway, though the backdrop of this picture looks rather grand (pretty pillar, ornate carvings, etc.), you should probably know that the whole time we took these pics, we were both whining about how much the area smelled like pee.  Ah, good ole downtown LA.

Paloma says...

So I am apparently the last working woman on the planet to shop at Ann Taylor.  I have been a fan of Loft for years, but for some reason when I heard "Ann Taylor," I always thought of clothes with a more matronly fit which were a little less hip.  But then one day I stumbled onto Ann Taylor's site online and found myself filling a shopping cart to the gills.  Fortunately, I talked myself out of a good 75% of those items (thus saving myself a few hundo), and ended up with a few things that I already adore. Case in point: this cardigan, which fits like a dream and is the perfect shade of heather gray (which means I will wear it 600 times this year).  I also got some shoes that I've already worn four times, which are so damn comfy I can hardly stand it.

Top: Loft (alternative)
Skirt: The Limited (alternative)
Cardigan: Ann Taylor
Bag: Madewell

Karen says...

Listen, this outfit is boring.  It's just black.  But I love this outfit.  It's kind of a neat cut on a black dress, flowy, shifty, flattering - and under a nice little black jacket, I can go to court in it just fine!

That is all that matters!

Dress: Hardwear (edgier like this)
Jacket: Maison Scotch

A Good Month For Us

Looked back to the last three years of posting, and we have consistently posted in this week of October.  This isn't the year to break that streak, and we are so happy that we got to see each other (and post!) three times this week, especially after an inexcusable, like, two month lapse.  Hehe, oops.

Karen says...

I really like this outfit, it's easy to wear, is clean, and basically the ideal business casual Friday situation.  I wish I had the ease to just dress like this naturally, but I actually had to think about it a little.  My go-to uniform, as you, dear reader, may have observed, is like some short flouncy skirt, some four-inch heels, and a camisole of some sort.  Then maybe a cardigan or blazer.  But an outfit like this pretty much works for anything - work and play, all year round, any part of the world.

Shirt: Maison Scotch (here's Madewell's perfect chambray shirt)
Sweater: J.Crew Factory (similar)
Jeans: AG Adriano Goldschmied
Heels: Zara (will always obsess over these)
Bag: Forever 21 (bucket bags forever!)

Paloma says...

It's a three-fer!! Karen and I decided today that we are in a new era of blogging... going to try to get back to the old days when we got together at least twice a week for a photo. As Karen mentioned, its so fun to go back through our archives and see what we posted over the years.  In fact, I noticed that a little over a year ago we posted from this same spot (albeit from the other side of the huge post), and I was even wearing the same jeans. But I don't even want to talk about what I wore two years ago today because holy moly that is not. cute. Of course, I think Karen looks positively adorable!

Feels Like Fall

Actually, it doesn't.  It's still 75 degrees out.

Paloma says...

I look easy-breezy in this picture, but the reality is I felt kinda tired and bleh today.  The good news, though? I can fit into this skirt again for the first time in a whole year! Huzzah! I have finally gotten serious about exercise (yoga and running are my jam), and also stopped eating like my children (pizza/nuggets/french fries, oh my), and the result is that I have all these clothes that I can fit into again - its like getting a whole new wardrobe!

Shirt: The Limited (exact in other colors)
Skirt: LOFT (alternative)
Shoes: JustFab (alternative)
Bag: Madewell

Karen says...

I only went to New York for, like, three days, but it got me very motivated to wear all my slacks.  I was telling Paloma today (TWO hangouts in one week, thank you very much!) that I am currently very motivated to wear pants, going through these long neglected treasures because they evoke autumn in New York.  I'm sure it will only take another day or so for me to go back to my flouncy skirt wearing ways.

Also, we talked about how I've been doing a shopping freeze (gasp!) and have to dig deep into my closet to really wear everything.  It takes diligence and discipline.  But, if I keep at it, maybe I can buy less of the fast fashion and more of the couture.  I HOPE SO.

Pants: DWP (cargo version)
Heels: Kenneth Cole (love these too)

Slacker Bloggers

Today we grabbed lunch just to scold each other on how badly we're maintaining our blog and IG pursuits.  The lapse is inexcusable!

Lunch today was at RiceBar, and we caught up about life and the weekend over bowls of chicken tinola.

Karen says...

I just got back from another New York weekend, which was a fashion fantasy for the eyes as I saw fall fashions lining the streets.  It was reportedly the first cold weekend and boy, am I glad that I got to see it.  It is proof positive that most things you see on Pinterest originate in the streets of New York, particularly around SoHo where we had been staying at the NOMO.  I spent the weekend layering different kinds of black, and I guess it bled over into the 75-degree LA workweek.

Lotsa layers here.

Cardigan: Barneys New York (like this)
Layered Tank: Zara (similar)
Skirt: S.Y.L.K. (here's one shorter and cheaper)
Heels: The Limited (but love these)
Bag: Forever 21 (would love Madewell's)

Paloma says...

OK, I am not even going to make excuses for my lack of blogging because its just more of the same. What's important is we blogged. And hopefully will do it again. If we can get up to twice a week I will be happy!

Always so good to see my beloved Karen, and as always felt like there were too many things to discuss and too little time. Guess we need to lunch more often!

Made Well and Vest Dressed

Whoa whoa whoa... three times together in a week?  Is it maybe the best week of our lives?  We were both crazy busy today but were able to meet up for an uber-productive lunch at KazuNori and cappuccinos after at Ledlow.

Paloma says...

Was so happy to blog today (we are on a roll!) because I get to model my new (and oh so wonderful) dress, which was a birthday present from my lovely mom!  I never go shopping in stores (online always!), but my mom was in town last weekend for my birthday and we spent 85% of the weekend shopping because that is how we do.  Anyway, it was fun to browse the racks and see what's trending... much different than the online experience indeed.  I noticed a strong theme of seventies-era clothes, with lots of high waisted jeans, moody florals, and brown/mustard/orange shades. Anyway, this dress feels very 70s to me for some reason but I can't pinpoint why. And though I was a bit concerned that it was too short for work, I felt awesome in it (just couldn't lift my arms).

Dress: Madewell
Shoes: Charles David
Necklace: J.Crew Factory (LOVE this alternative)
Bag: Madewell

Karen says...

I'll be honest, this vest-dress was an impulse buy a few weeks back after I had a drink.  I was walking around the Century City mall after a tipple and wandered into a Banana Republic.  Big mistake.  Huge.  Or maybe the best decision I've made for the fall season?

Still figuring out ways to wear it, but today I wore it like a summer suit jacket for a deposition.  Going to convert it into a dress for the apr├Ęs le travail look.

Oh, and the happy grin was per Paloma's request.

One is the Loneliest Number

... especially when Paloma is totally standing there, ready for the photo-taking and blogging, but tells you that you must blog alone today because she ain't really feelin' it.  These were the birthday drinks referenced last week, which happened at The Must on Winston.

Paloma was not crazy about The Must's menu.  But she was crazy about my peach and burgundy color combo!

Happy Birthday, Paloma!

Last week, Paloma celebrated her birthday.  Lunch date was in order.

Paloma says...

Turning 35 was kind of a trip for me. Not because I am sad or mourning my youth (though maybe that just a little), but because it just seems so very adult.  And I honestly feel like I am still 22 on most days.  Of course, my two kids and very serious job tell me otherwise.

In any event, was lovely as always to squeeze in lunch with Karen. Wore my usual black and white with a "pop of color" (am I the only one who now hates that expression?!).  Though I only wore the cardigan for the 2 minutes it took to photograph it because September is by far the hottest month in Los Angeles.

Shirt: Forever 21 (similar)
Jeans: J.Crew Factory (similar)
Cardigan: J.Crew Factory (similar)
Shoes: Charles David
Bag: Madewell

Karen says...

I'm in a bit of a style funk lately, which also explains the dearth of posts lately.  Basically, I can't decide on what I like right now.  The last couple of years of Pinteresting and blogging has brought me through quite a few trends - statement necklaces, trying to go normcore, the constant layering of patterns - leading me to an identity crisis.  Either nothing feels like it's my own idea (cuz it's not), or, I'm lacking confidence in executing something new (like ever wearing my Birkenstocks unless it's around the two friends who get it).
That defaults to just taking random things out of my closet and putting them together based on fit.  Found an old Scotch & Soda t-shirt I basically never wear.  Pulled out the Madewell skirt I basically always wear.  It fit fine, and it's Friday, so there we go.

And... happy birthday to my darling Paloma!  Lunch is down, now just drinks to go.

Summer Meets Autumn

Labor Day Weekend is that time, loaded with promise: the end of summer, with its warm weather, shorts, flip flops, and carefree backyard barbecues; but the beginning of fall, unofficially, with its cool breezes, changing colors, and the mild and lovely transition into the holiday season.  Certainly, where we are it can be unbearably hot for another few weeks before we even know it's fall.  But hard not to pull in warmer hues and heavier knits once the calendar changes to September.

We had an easy and breezy Japanese lunch today, then caught a quick photo.  Long weekend on.

Paloma says...

I almost don't feel like I need to say anything. Here I am, again, in neutrals with a turquoise necklace. Because that's how I do.

Shirt: H&M (similar)
Jeans: Old Navy
Shoes: Banana Republic (low heel alternative that i love)
Necklace: Forever 21
Sunnies: Prada
Bag: Madewell

Karen says...

First: I chopped off about five inches into a blunt mid-length cut.  Still getting used to it, but overall I am all about new seasons and new looks.  Sorta.

Second: as far as Labor Day looks go, I think this bodycon dress is pretty much perfect.  Not at all suitable for cold weather, and too tight for warm weather.  Matches easily with cool tones (like my necklace) and warm tones (like the Jill Stuart bag Cynthia long loaned me).  Goes good with neutral wedges.  Easy to wear with big sunglasses.

I'm so ready for the weekend!  And the start of a new season.

Dress: Pika988 (but I'd love this)
Shoes: Gap (get them on sale!)
Bag: Jill Stuart (kinda like this)
Necklace: J.Crew Factory (like this)
Sunglasses: Vintage Dior (like these)

Coffee Break Basics

We ended our work week with a quick Friday meet up for coffee - love when we can do that!

Karen says...

I saw a friend for lunch and he was like, "So what did you do?  Just throw something on over your jammies?"  Since it was his birthday, I decided to not say anything rude back.  As well, I saw his point.  It is a camisole with like, a thrift-store salvaged Isabel Marant loungewear shift.  But it's the only Isabel Marant I own so I will wear it like it's easy Friday business casual.  And I will try to dress it up with a J.Crew clutch and Topshop stacked heel sandals.  OK?  OK.

Camisole: Martin + Osa (held out, lo, these many years! (like this)
Shift: Isabel Marant (I kind of like this)
Sandals: Topshop (love these)
Clutch: J.Crew (like this)

Oh... and my little Longchamp bracelet!
I can't find it anymore but a Fendi one would be nice, as well.

Paloma says...

Well, I definitely did the same color combo two days in a row (black/gray/white/turquoise, word), but hey - if it ain't broke, right?

Also, I love the zipper detail on these jeans - a bit more interesting than basic black jeans, eh?

Back in Black

I'm here! And dressed in some of the usual suspects -black and gray with a bit of turquoise.  I haven't worn pants in eons (summer, hot, bleh!), but today I was happy that I did because these ones are comfy and I have been glued to my office chair all day.

Early Lunch in Late Summer

Always a treat to lunch together. And we just love it when we inadvertently coordinate - it happens quite a lot! Today it was floral shirts + A-line skirts!

Paloma says...

I am not even going to comment on what a crummy blogger I've been this summer because, well, I am starting to sound like a broken record.  Going to start blogging more, blah, blah, I swear, blah, blah... at this point, I don't even believe myself!

In any event, I love this blouse. It combines two of my most favorite colors (coral + purple), is a nice light weight, and can be dressed up or down.  Pretty damn perfect.

Blouse: Old Navy (alternative)
Skirt: The Limited (alternative)
Shoes: Jessica Simpson (alternative)
Necklace: J.Crew Factory
Bag: Madewell

Karen says...

We had a lot, and I mean a lot, to catch up on, as well as being way overdue for another post.

We both miss the days where we posted whatever we wore, whatever it was, every single day.  I don't think either of us thinks that we're adding anything huge to the fashion blogger landscape - it's just amusing to post what we wear to work, and do it together.  It's a fun place to see our outfits lined up week after week, and a great way to push ourselves to stay creative.  Or stay accountable.  In reality, we could probably keep about 20 pieces total and just change it up every day, no one at the office would notice the difference.  This reminds me of like, that teacher in high school with a frizzy perm and blue eye makeup and you're like, why!  Why!  Why can't she just turn on the TV and see that people are not doing this anymore!  So, now that I'm on the wrong side of my mid-thirties, it's fun to keep a (sorta) daily weblog of how my tastes are changing, and hopefully - not for the worst.

Lunch today was at Public School.  Pictures after were at the Standard.  I watched an episode of Sex and the City last night where Carrie wore a late summer outfit of a tied-up button down with a full skirt.  She then went to Charlotte's apartment to yell at her for not loaning her the down payment for her apartment.  I got the late summer part down.  Thanks, Carrie, as ever, for the simple inspiration.

It Happened

We did happy hour together.

So the pictures may be a bit blurry (it was well after 5:30 and we were a couple of glasses wine deep).... but what really matters is that we blogged! Together! Huzzah!

Karen says...

I bought a few things for dirt cheap at the latest J.Crew Factory sale.  Wish they made this easy to wear shift in every color!  And although it goes for casual, the material is nice enough for work (with a cardigan).

It was perfect on a summer evening for drinks with Paloma.

(Oh.  And the left heel gave out on these trusty Sole Society blurred leopard pumps.  Sadness!)

Shoes: Sole Society (maybe these next?)
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff x Rent the Runway

Paloma says...

Wow. I really really really suck at blogging this summer. I keep saying that its just that work has been so busy that I haven't had the time to blog, but the reality is that I think I kinda wanted to take a little break.  I talked about it a few months back - losing the energy and excitement I once had for blogging - and I think stepping back for awhile has allowed me to get to a place where I have started to miss it.

In any event, last week Karen and I met up for happy hour with a few other former/current co-workers (which, as always, was super fun) and of course since we were together we HAD to take a blog photo.  Hopefully this photo is just the beginning of my return to the blog!

Friday I'm in Love

.... with palazzo pants.

Had a conversation with a co-worker in the elevator where she complimented me on my pants, and then mentioned that they must feel (read: look) like jammie pants.  I was like, yes, I feel guilty wearing these, but hopefully they're stylish, too?  And she assured me that I was pulling it off.  But, in full disclosure, I do feel a tiny bit indulgent wearing these all-too-comfy pants to work.

The best part is, they're from Target and I never had to alter them!  So they fell straight to the ground with a pair of chunky wedges.  And comfy on casual Friday.  Yes!

First, Fourth, Eighth

A little behind on July blogging already so here are three outfits from the first, the Fourth, and today (the eighth).  With some light commentary on each.

First.  Can't get enough of navy and white, with a peach colored shell to fill in the gaps.

Shell: J.Crew (similar and on sale!)
Jacket: Anthropologie (similar)
Skirt: Velvet (similar and what a steal!)
Shoes: Frau (Frau heels may be the best ever)
Clutch: Phillip Lim 3.1 (timeless!)

Fourth.  Best buy of the season - a stars and stripes pashmina from Forever 21.

Pashmina: Forever 21

Eighth.  Feeling very summery, and after vegan lunch in Echo Park, thought I was very much in the same schematic as this tattoo parlor.

Top: Topshop (like this)
Skirt: H&M (more subtle by LOFT)
Heels: The Limited (similar)

So... I realize that I said I was going to try to blog every day this week, and I am only just posting for the first time on Wednesday.  But hey, better than not at all!

Sporting this great new blouse today from a most unexpected place - J.C. Penney! I saw this post and immediately had to have that skirt, so headed to J.C. Penney's website to order it, and while there realized they had a pretty nice collection of blouses so ended up snagging a couple. And I have to say, I am pretty impressed! Good quality, flattering shape, and I love the color. Plus, I got so many compliments on it today - yay!

Blouse: J.C. Penney (on crazy sale)
Skirt: Halogen (similar)

The Most Casual of Fridays

At the last minute, we were able to get together for lunch (when, at the last minute, we had at first canceled that lunch) - so we seized on that opportunity!  And then lamented that, thinking this would be the fast work Friday, we didn't really like our outfits!  But this is truth in blogging.  On the most random, casual of Fridays, this is what we wore!

Paloma says...

I was thrilled to have lunch with Karen today, but I was not so thrilled when I realized my return to the blog after another unintended hiatus would be in the most boring outfit ever.  The one thing I do love is the return of flare jeans - I feel like they are so much more flattering on my pear shape body than skinny jeans.  And somehow I feel more professional in them on a casual Friday.

Okay guys, I am going to try to blog every day next week! See you then!

Camisole: Old Navy (couldn't find similar but I wish I was wearing this)
Cardigan: Target (similar)
Jeans: AG
Shoes: Just Fab (similar)
Bag: Madewell

Karen says...

I'm like, t-shirt, torn jeans.  Not very lawyerly.  But fit is everything, and a Current/Elliott tee isn't just your ordinary tee!  I got this one hoping to wear it exactly this way, tucked in and loose with torn boyfriend jeans.  Maybe some heels would've punched up this look more, but for a Friday in summertime, had to go with the espadrilles.

Jeans: STS Blue
Espadrilles: Adam Tucker
Clutch: 3.1 Phillip Lim (love this one!)
Accessories: Nixon watch, J.Crew cuff

Blue Bluer Bluest

The struggle is real.  We have both been buried in our little lawyer worlds.  Which is a shame, because summertime, my favorite time, is when you can wear bright colors and simple pieces.  Very bloggable events.

I follow a lot of fashion bloggers and am just awed by their lifestyles: traveling, sponsored, from glamorous city to city, constantly in the perfect clothes with a team of stylists and photographers around them.  And all they have to do is mind their Instagram every day.  Sincerely Jules in Capri.  The Blonde Salad in the Maldives.  So, I've never thought of this as a "fashion blog" as much as it is a web log of stuff we wear to work.  Lord knows the locations get about as exotic as the Target down the street.

In keeping with that "real girl" spirit, I often have in mind that outfit I'm going to wear because those items just look so cute sitting in my closet or on my ottoman, and I think, pairing them together will be perfect!  I have a running Pinterest in my head of all these outfits I'll put together.  And then when I do it, come 7:30 am every morning, I'm like... Oh my God.  I hate the way this looks on me.  Because obviously I see my lithe and winsome self standing in a cityscape, and then the reflection in the mirror is like the really drab office person.

So then there's all this trial and error... this morning, I was going to do a gray Current/Elliott tee with this navy polka dotted pencil skirt, but the shirt was bunching up at the waistline and I felt like a worm.  Found a much lighter cami and it went from there.  Blue, blue, and more blue!  Break it up with some orange pumps.  Pull out recently rediscovered vintage sunglasses.  Done!

Camisole: Martin + Osa (remember when?) (love this J. Crew similar)
Skirt: Banana Republic (this Vince Camuto is similar)
Pumps: Nine West (but this McQ splurge is to die for)
Clutch: 3.1 Phillip Lim (different color but similar on the Outnet)
Sunglasses: vintage Dior (how about some Tom Ford Palomas, perfectly named!)

The New Camo

Isn't beige, grey, and black the camouflage of the working woman's battleground?  It just blends into everything, subtle tones washing into a sea of conservative shades.  Such was how I felt this Monday.  I'm just blending in, folks.

Oh, and this was at the Westfield Century City, a photo taken by Stefan after I gave him like five minutes' worth of instructions.  Thanks, Stefan!  You were very patient with me while I shopped at Sephora and chatted up the Nespresso people.  I'll eat bibimbap with you anytime.

Hello Again

Hello again! So clearly I took a blogging hiatus. And for three weeks! It was actually totally unintentional - I just got busy and skipped a few days and then it was just easy to keep not blogging than to start up again, if that makes any sense.  Anyway, I did start to miss it and so today I finally decided to jump back in with both feet.  And with those feet in these adorable new shoes, no less! These shoes were actually my co-worker's, but she realized they ran a bit small and were too uncomfortable for her.  So she generously donated them to my slightly smaller feet. And they. are. awesome.

Priest Chic

Only when I took the second photo, did I realize, oh, haha, I dressed like Father Karen today.

I was actually going for like a collared shirt-sweater thing, but didn't have the right collared shirt on hand (as in, patterned or chambray), so I went with a frilly, white NSFW tank.  Matched it with some white and gold accessories, then two, yes two different animal prints.  Nice little accents for rainy day outfit!

Skirt: Forever 21 (duh, right?) (similar price point)

Greys + Camels

Oh, I should've posted this last week, when I wore it, but you know, I didn't.

Confession: after Italy, I got on this vacation hangover diet where I kept trying to eat the things I ate while in Europe.  This included starting every meal with a dinner roll and butter (reminiscent of international flight meal service).  It also included constantly eating pasta and multiple espressos (with sugar) a day.  To say nothing of the Mulino Bianco cookies I just can't get enough of.

So, I haven't been in a bloggy mood because things didn't fit right.  And I wasn't really in the mood to care because I was having a vacation hangover.

Sometime last week, the California switch went back on and I started running in the mornings again.  I've cut back on the cookies and cappuccinos.  Part of the reason we keep our blog is to stay accountable - to variety in our closet, to staying in the know, to dressing for the career we want to have - and to stay healthy so that clothes we invest in, continue to fit!  I mean, I don't think Paloma ever has any issue (so fabulously svelte, sigh), but I do know we share this philosophy about consistency.

OK, so this is last week, where I pulled out an old skirt from Forever 21 and threw it with an old jacket from H&M.  Something about grey with camel just makes so much sense to me.

Oh, and I love my Massimo Dutti t-shirt, it has sheer sleevelets which are just the right, dainty touch to a comfy tee.

Warehouse Window Shopping

My co-worker Vi and I have this common obsession for noodle soups.  Our other co-worker and frequent co-conspirator, Steve, does not share this obsession.  On days when our lunch plans diverge, Vi and I run off to find nearby noodle soup.

That brought us today to a quick bowl of pho at everyone's favorite downtown Vietnamese, Blossom. The neatest secret about a trek to Blossom?  Hang a right afterward onto Winston and to the warehouse district.  Shortly after this photo was taken, we scored a dozen really hip sunglasses for $12.

Yes, you read that correctly!  12 pairs of sunglasses for $12.

And I mean, they weren't janky ones, you know?  They are basically the kind that end up with a Minkpink label or something on them... because the pair that I bought today is replacing an identical Minkpink pair I lost.

So, this was taken shortly before the sunglasses bonanza.  I like the hearts on the ground.

Cardigan: Forever 21 (thanks, Cyn!) (and I like this black and tan one from LOFT)
